Conducting Motivational Performance Appraisals

This one day programme will give delegates the skills and knowledge to be able to complete a performance appraisal.  Ideal for those team leaders/supervisors  and managers who are inexperienced at carrying out appraisals.

The programme will cover the purpose of appraisal, what are competencies, preparing for a performance appraisal, the pre meeting, the techniques of appraisal, setting objectives, types of learning and development methods, structuring the interview and using self appraisal.

There will also be some role plays to test the learning of delegates.

Recruitment & Selection

This two day programme is designed for managers and supervisors who are involved in the recruitment and selection process.  By the end of the programme delegates will be able to conduct an interview using behavioural interviewing techniques.

The programme includes the legal implications of recruiting, , the role of job descriptions and person specifications, recruitment sources and selection methods, structuring the interview using the wasp framework, the techniques and theory of behavioural interviewing and making the decision.

Discipline and Grievance Handling

The aim of this programme is to give delegates the skills and knowledge to be able to satisfy the criteria of the statutory dismissal, disciplinary and grievance procedure.

The programme includes contracts of employment and how they link to dismissal, disciplinary and grievance procedures, what constitutes fair and unfair dismissal, types of dismissal, the statutory disciplinary and grievance procedure. Including conducting an investigation and disciplinary meeting, types of disciplinary action, warning letters,  appeals procedure, role of the companion, note taking, witness statements and suspension.  There is a case study and roles plays to check individuals learning. 

The programme can be adapted around your own company disciplinary and grievance procedures.

An overview session if appropriate can be included on the employment tribunal procedure.

Employment Law

This programme is a guide through some of the key day to day areas of employment law that affects employers.  For some individuals employment law can be quite dry. There are several activities to prevent this from happening.

This one day programme covers who is an employee, what constitutes a contract of employment, types of discrimination – race, sex, disability, religion and belief, sexual orientation and age and family matters – maternity, paternity, adoption, parental leave and flexible working.

Managing Poor Performance

Often the reason why managers do not manage the poor performance of their team members is because they do not know how to do it.  The aim of this one  day programme is to give the skill and knowledge to confidently do this.

This programme includes the causes of poor performance, how to conduct a performance counselling interview, types of questions to ask, how to maintain positive relationships, setting goals, types of learning and development methods available, motivating others and follow up to a performance counselling situation.  There will be role plays to enable delegates to practice the learning.

Trainer Training – Skills

This three day programme is all about how to deliver on the job training to individuals.

Included in this programme are the benefits of training, the learning process, the structure of a training session, analysing tasks, question technique, checking understanding and applying the training in the workplace.  Delegates are asked to prepare and carry out two training sessions over the three days and give feedback to their colleagues.  There will be  ample opportunity over the three days to prepare their training sessions.

Trainer Training – Knowledge & Attitude

The aim of this three day training programme is to give delegates the skill and knowledge to be able to deliver effective and interactive  training sessions to groups.

The programme includes learning styles, writing learning objectives which will test both recall and understanding, preparing the intro, development and consolidation stages of a group training session, question technique, ways of making your session interactive, group handling and applying the training in the workplace.  Delegates will be asked to prepare and implement two training sessions over the three days.  There will be opportunity during the three days to prepare these sessions.

The role of manager and supervisor has its own specialist skills and knowledge.

In order for a manager or supervisor to develop individuals, build a team and achieve their goals here are some of those skills they need.  Planning and organising, time management, communication skills, delegation, teamwork, motivation, problem solving, persuading and influencing, leading effective meetings  and assertiveness.  These can be run as separate modules or part of a programme.

The  aim of this one day programme is to introduce the concept of coaching as a development method, identify situations that are appropriate for coaching and understand the different ways people learn.
